Copperbelt University has been selected by the World Bank to be the Afria Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Mining. The Center aims to deliver excellence in education, training and research in five areas to improve the sustainability of the mining industry in Zambia and beyond, with a focus on community vulnerability in mining environments, restoration of mined environments, waste management, energy use and biodiversity and ecosystem impacts, entrepreneurship and corporate social responsibility. The university operates mining operations as a living lab for sustainable studies/transitions. The Center offers three Master's level programmes and one PhD programme.
