Institutional Approach

Mondragón Unibertsitatea is a cooperative, non-profit university focused on societal transformation through comprehensive education, integrating scientific, technical, and cooperative values, promoting sustainability, and fostering entrepreneurship, via its campuses and industry connections. Based on this vision, the university is committed to the sustainable management of resources (energy, water, materials, waste...) of the different campuses through the implementation of circular economy initiatives to mitigate carbon emissions and the environmental footprint of university activities on campus, and in the same way contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030. In this area, the university has been working for 4 years on the implementation of a methodology, tool and set of indicators that allow carrying out different strategies of circular economy and environmental sustainability in the different campuses. In this way, it has been possible to measure the environmental footprint and circularity of the different campuses, and has defined the following lines of action with the commitment to continue working on them over time to achieve the goal of being a zero emissions campus; Energy efficiency and use of renewable energy, efficiency in the use of materials, prevention of waste generation and selective separation, sustainable mobility, circular and sustainable purchasing.
