Institutional Approach

In 2019, Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), Englang, declared a climate emergency, embarking on a holistic institute-wide commitment to sustainability. They integrate sustainability into all courses, facilitated by their Education for Sustainability core program. ARU's sustainability strategy consists of 4 goals and corresponding KPIs. Goal 1 focuses on empowering graduates with the tools to tackle climate-related challenges. Goal 2 emphasizes boosting sustainability-related research and innovation. Goal 3 centers on showcasing expertise in sustainable practices within operations, while Goal 4 aims to foster local community development and social structures promoting sustainability. The Sustainability Strategy Group, which includes student representatives, oversees and monitors this strategy, reporting to the University Executive Team. The medium-term objective is for all university departments and operations to align with the sustainability strategy by 2026.
