The initiatives, programs and projects developed by Butler University's Center for Urban Ecology and Sustainability (CUES) aim to progress urban ecology and sustainability research, inform the public of scientific knowledge and empower citizens to create individual and social change. The CUES also manages a sustainable urban university farm - a one-acre sustainable agriculture project - which promotes education and research, engaging internal and external communities in sustainable agricultural projects in a living lab 'farm-based learning' approach. Experiential learning at the Butler Farm is integrated into multiple courses at the university, including 'Cultivating Well Being', 'Food (In)justice', 'Sustainability Practicum on Food Waste', and a minor track in Applied Local Food Systems.
