Institutional Approach

The Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences – KISS, comprises the NGO the KISS Foundation, KISS School & College and KISS University. They describe themselves as the 'largest tribal institute of the world', with a mandate to provide education for all. In their Education for Sustainable Development approach, they provide free education, accomodation, food and healthcare to c. 30,000 indigenous students. Their approach offers progressive and sustainable forms of education which emcompasses sustainability topics while also facilitating social change, with a strong focus on cultural sustainability of traditional tribal practices. The KISS University offers study programs on tribal law and human rights, tribal resource management and tribal culture and eco-spiritualism.
