The National Chi Nan University (NCNU), Taiwan, has adopted a campus plan which incorporates ecological principles and environmental protection measures into the university's operations management, aiming to foster an ecologically diverse campus and a more sustainable living environment. The university has also established three plans, utilizing the local community as a test-bed, to integrate NCNU's curriculum with the community. These were carried out with the aim of enhancing awareness of environmental issues and fostering consensus on sustainable development among students, faculty, and residents. Firstly, the “Citizenship Cultivation Plan” collaborates with local communities to address sustainable development. The "University without Boundary Project" aims to cultivate innovative learning methods, promote collaboration with the local community, and implement a "learning without barriers" model, and encourage interdisciplinarity. Thirdly, the “University Social Responsibility (USR) Plan” employs an ethical approach to engaging with local and global communities, integrating curriculum with the community as a living lab to address environmental concerns and involve local residents, students, and faculty.
