Institutional Approach

The National Taiwan University (NTU) opened it's first environmental education center in 1993, and has founded and led the Green University Network of Taiwan. They were also the first university in Asia to divest from high-emitting and polluting industries, driven by student sustainability club advocacy. To integrate sustainable development throughout the institute, NTU has established the Sustainble Development Promotion Committee, the Sustainable Development Office, and the Office of Sustainability, as well as the Sustainable Development Advisory Committee. Their two main focuses are on a sustainable campus, and social justice, inclusion and social responsibility. Moreover, their transdisciplinary New Energy Center, active since 2000, innovates carbon-free and sustainable energy, in collaboration with industry and policy planning. NTU has also been engaged in mapping and supporting capacity development for sustainability education capacities across Taiwan as a whole.
