The University of Central Oklahoma is experimenting with innovative educational approaches to sustainability. In particular, they institutionalized transformative learning as a guiding value of the academic management of the university. They do this through the Student Transformative Learning Record, a ‘second transcript’ that students work towards, tracking their achievements in six key transformative learning targets, including community engagement and sustainability. This is also supported by the Center for Excellence in Transformative Teaching and Learning, a central point for campus units to collaborate on transformative learning. Their approach also centers organizational reflection on collective dilemmas, and the complexities of sustainability.
