The University of Extremadura, Spain, has a mission to become a “Change-maker university”. A notable program spearheaded to innovate Education for Sustainable Development is the “Teaching Innovation Group”, a group composed of professors of different disciplines interested in the inclusion of ethics and sustainability in a transversal way in the university curriculum. The program incorporated training activities (courses and conferences) that were complemented with classroom interventions and periods of reflection and communication among the teachers of the group. The effort was intended to align teaching practices with the university’s Education for Sustainable Development goals, which was also accompanied by increasing the sustainability content in courses, increasing the number of sustainability-oriented courses, and transforming institutional governance to promote and act in line with the SDGs.
