The University of Leeds chairs and drives the City of Leeds’ Climate Commission, an initiative to achieve net zero goals for the city. As part of the commission, a Climate Change Citizens’ Jury generated recommendations for sustainable city operations to be adopted by the local government, with oversight from external groups such as Extinction Rebellion, the Leeds City Council and the Racial Justice Network. Their Net Zero Carbon Roadmap for Leeds led to actions which will mean Leeds will halve its carbon emissions by 2025. Within the university, the SDGs drive the work of the University of Leeds on sustainability through their teaching, research and other operations. In their most recent Climate Plan, Leeds outlines ambitious commitments to addressing climate change with responsible investments, net-zero campus operations and a full-curriculum stock-taking initiative to ensure all studies incorporate aspects of sustainability.
