Institutional Approach

The University of Macedonia, in Greece, has embedded Sustainable Development across their curriculum, in a similar model to Plymouth University. They have implemented cross-institutional research themes on Biodiversity and the Green Economy as well as sustainable design. Solidifying their sustainability efforts institutionally are a sustainable development policy, green campus procedures, sustainable curriculum implementation policies, and a variety of initiatives incorporating sustainable development into international networking for staff and students, training, outreach, procurement, student engagement and other local and regional activities. The university also has a dedicated office – the Office of Environmental Management (EMAS), which tries to improve their Environmental Management System with the goal of becoming a circular campus.
