Institutional Approach

The University of Southern California (USC), USA, has a place-based initiative to operationalize SDGs on a local level. They initiated a practicum to study the application of human rights principles to issues of homelessness in Los Angeles, coordinated by the USC Institute on Inequalities in Global Health, with support of the municipal SDG initiative. The practicum aims to train students in applying the SDG framework to local issues using cross-disciplinary research methods, and provide them with community engagement and multiple-sector stakeholder collaboration experience. They also have a Center for Sustainability Solutions which serves as a global partner with international stakeholders, with a mission of connecting diverse, interdisciplinary stakeholders. The Center works with a global network of Sustainability Solutions Regional Hubs to aid in knowledge and technology transfer and work on transnational sustainability issues.
